Ceri Amphlett
Since graduating from the Royal College of Art in London, she has been producing work internationally for the music, fashion, and design industries.
Ceri’s sketchbooks appear like a document of youth culture; girls and shoes, hoodies, mouthy gaggles, and awkward clusters of boys. Unedited simple thoughts represented in speech bubbles. Animals and cuddly toys alike are given voices, sometimes poignant, sometimes ironic, but often of an acerbic or deadpan tenor.
The immediate and urgent nature of her drawing, has been harnessed by a range of clients, often with strikingly different requirements. From the more fashionable demands of clients such as Levi’s in the US, to The Battersea Dog’s Home in London, clients with a need to communicate a more serious message about animal welfare. Her drawings for the home’s 2007 Annual Report poignantly portrayed the backgrounds of many of the animals that are bought to the home.
Ceri created the vibrant visual identity for band “The Go! Team”s, debut album ‘Thunder, Lightning, Strike’, the work capturing their raw, energised music. Ceri was also approached by Sony Music in New York to create sleeve artworks for US Band ‘The 22’s’ new album.
In addition to her commercial work, Ceri often exhibits her work as part of the ‘Artists Open House’ calendar during the Brighton Festival. This provides Ceri with an outlet for more experimental artworks, producing Monoprints and using her beloved ‘Omnichrom’ machine to produce editions of images.
In the summer season, Ceri likes nothing more than hanging out at Skomer Island, a national Nature Reserve off the coast of Pembrokeshire, not far from where she grew up. The island is a haven for Puffins and Atlantic Grey Seals – watching these for days on end is one of Ceri’s quiet pleasures.
