Adam Simpson is a London based illustrator working from his studio overlooking the Thames. He enjoys creating artworks that can offer new details and hidden narratives on repeat viewings. Adam explores scale in his work, from intimate and iconic artworks like his Myths & legends stamp set commissioned by Royal Mail, to environmental projects such as his mural spanning three floors of the Hilton Hotel at Wembley.
His clients include BAFTA, The Booker Prize, Conran Group, Darling Park, Esquire, The Folio Society, Guildhall School of Music & Drama, Hilton Hotels, The Hollywood Reporter, Johnnie Walker, Laurence King Publishing, Lloyds of London, Musée des Arts Décoratifs, Nike, Penguin Random House, Royal Mail, MoMA, Smithsonian, Staatsoper Berlin, Standard Life Wealth, Universal Pictures, Wallpaper* and Wired.
“Adam was selected to illustrate the Myths and Legends stamps because his work charmingly recreates scenes that tell stories in an engaging and new way. His ability to illustrate both characters and locations combined with his use of colour, creates a real sense of atmosphere and location. The final eight images sit together perfectly and create a rich and detailed look at some of the enduring myths, legends and folklore that are historically interwoven with our past.”
Marcus James, Head of Design Royal Mail Stamps & Collectables
A set of eight stamps celebrating mythical creatures and fabled figures for Royal Mail. The stamps include the Loch Ness Monster, Black Shuck and Beowulf, representing stories from different regions across the UK
In addition to the stamps, Adam was commissioned to create two handstamp designs to commemorate the day of release of the Myths & Legends stamps. These are applied by hand to mail items at designated Special Handstamp Centres creating a unique postmark.
A silver-plated medal featuring Beowulf on the front and his enemy, the monster Grendel, on the reverse was also commissioned as part of the project
“"I wanted to work with Adam on an illustration representing Guildhall School for our new prospectus. I loved Adam’s ability to create a world behind the façade of a building, and he didn’t disappoint with this commission; he really was able to represent all aspects of the student’s work and life behind the scenes at Guildhall. Adam very quickly understood the brief and ran with it, creating a beautiful bespoke artwork that was so very well received within our community. And he was a real pleasure to work with!" ”
Airelle Depreux, Design and Brand Manager for Guildhall School of Music
“Working with Adam on our jigsaw puzzles is always a joy. It’s always a collaborative process, and it's that mutual respect, understanding and excitement that means we always end up with a glorious finished illustration. Adam's illustrations are packed with detail on every piece so that there is never a dull moment as you assemble the puzzle. And he just keeps getting better! ”
Philip Contos, Deputy Publisher, Laurence King
“"I really love Adam’s style, and I thought he would be a good fit for an updated art deco take on Gatsby – he has an elegance and an inherent class to his work that pairs perfectly with this book."”
