Aude Van Ryn was born in Brussels, Belgium. She studied at St Martins School of Art, followed by the Royal College of Art. She lives in London and works in the same studio as Heart. Aude’s representation with Heart started in 1998.

Aude’s work, created in the traditional mediums of pencil and paint, are graphic and often allegorical in their interpretation of subject matter. It is with an intelligent approach that she has interpreted challenging subjects ranging from branding for some of the world’s most well known corporations, to public health information campaigns and sensitive editorials covering subjects such as race and mental health. Her illustrations have been employed for packaging for Le Pain Quotidien and to illustrate non-fiction titles ‘This is Monet’ and ‘Surely You’re Joking Mr Feynman!’. Aude is currently working on her first children’s book on the subject of dinosaurs, to be published by Laurence King.

Since 2007 Aude has worked as a ceramicist alongside her career as an illustrator. Her ceramics bear the same distinctive graphic mark making, motifs and elegance as her illustration work. However, it is both the physicality of holding clay and the technicalities of firing and glazing that have inspired her enjoyment of a different medium. Aude is currently studying part time for a masters in and sells her porcelain tableware at The New Craftsmen.
