ADAM SIMPSON

The Great Gatsby

Internal double page spread ‘West Egg and East Egg’

On January 1st 2021, the text for The Great Gatsby entered the public domain and it has been freely adapted for the first time with this illustrated edition published by Black Dog & Leventhal, an imprint of Hachette

Adam Simpson was commissioned to create eight internal artworks and a series of spots to sit amongst the text as well as the design for the cover and slip case. The text of this illustrated edition is reprinted from the first printing of the first edition of the work, published in 1925

“It was a matter of chance that I should have rented a house in one of the strangest communities in North America. It was on that slender riotous island which extends itself due east of New York—and where there are, among other natural curiosities, two unusual formations of land.”
